Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ) bridge officially opened

The Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ) bridge, a dual carriageway of 330m linking Chebel to Soreze via the Grand River North West Valley was inaugurated on the 10th March 2024, by The Prime Minister, Honourable Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. The bridge is now officially open to the public.

In his keynote address, at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Jugnauth stated that the bridge is yet another momentous landmark in the infrastructural development of the country. The architectural structure has necessitated the expertise of international countries. He acknowledged the support and collaboration of various international countries including Korea, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Singapore, China, Turkey, and South Africa in realizing the iconic project. The Prime Minister also expressed that 80% of the workforce were locals and opined that Mauritian engineers and other workers have had the opportunity to learn from international experts and will consequently be able to implement more complex projects in the country.

The bridge is a first of its kind in the Sub-Saharan region and forms part of the Government's strategy to ease and enhance the lives of the citizens, adding that it will save time and fuel as well as alleviate traffic problems.

The bridge of 330m long and an overall height of 120m is made up of extra dosed structure. Its salient feature comprises its height from the GRNW valley and the 7 cable stays per pylon supporting the deck. It is expected that the bridge will be ranked as the most aesthetic structure of Mauritius and play an important role as a national landmark in Mauritius.
