Editorial August 20, 2025

The Lux Collective, the Mauritian-born global luxury hotel operator, has signed a management agreement with Shaoguan Greater Nanhua Investment & Development Company Ltd to develop LUX Shaoguan in Guangdong Province. The partnership, represents a RMB 360 million (USD 50 million) investment in what will become the first international luxury hotel in Shaoguan City.

This is not The Lux Collective's first venture into China. The company has been operating in the Chinese market since 2014, when it opened LUX Tea Horse Road Lijiang in September of that year. Since then, The Lux Collective has built a substantial portfolio including LUX Tea Horse Road Benzilan (2015), LUX Chongzuo in Guangxi (2021), and LUX Tea Horse Road Shangri-La (2022). The company currently manages 18 operating resorts and hotels globally, with 12 more in its development pipeline.

The new 108-room LUX Shaoguan will be positioned as a luxury integrated resort featuring Zen-inspired design, a multi-functional event space, cutting-edge fitness and spa facilities, specialty restaurants, and a kids' club. Located in Qujiang District adjacent to the historic Nanhua Zen Temple, the property aims to leverage both the region's 2,100-year history and its proximity to UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, Danxia Mountain.

At the signing ceremony, Deputy Mayor of Shaoguan City Jiang Wenhong emphasized the project's strategic importance in elevating the region's cultural tourism landscape. Chairman Ou Yang of the Shaoguan Greater Nanhua Company expressed his vision to blend Zen sophistication with world-class luxury hospitality, while The Lux Collective's Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific, Nitesh Pandey, highlighted the partnership's potential.

For The Lux Collective, an affiliate member of IBL Group, a major economic player in the Indian Ocean and leader in Mauritius's "Top 100" companies, this expansion strengthens its Asian presence and demonstrates the growing international reach of Mauritian hospitality expertise. The partnership positions The Lux Collective to capitalize on China's luxury tourism market, marking another milestone in the company's strategic expansion across Asia.
